MATH

so i did a little figuring today... when weighing filters for suspended particulate analysis... i walk to the oven, get out a filter, walk to the balance, walk back to the oven... over and over and over, each filter gets weighed 3 times and is placed back into the oven to dry between each weighing (clays absorb water from the air so they increase in weight the more they are out, must stick em back in the oven to evaporate the water).... It is 16 steps from the balance to the oven... so this is equivalent to 4320 steps for each trip out into the pearl... then during the filtering process it is approximately 12 steps from the filtering apperatus to the water bottles... equivalent to 240 steps... and then from the filtering apperatus to the balance (to pre weight the filters... it takes a while for the water to filter, so i do this as i go... that way im not sitting around watching water drip through the filter... very boring)... this is approximately 23 steps .... equivalent to 4140 steps...

So if i figure about a foot a step, and my steps are usually slightly bigger than a foot... but for ease, ill say its a foot.... So i am looking at about 8700 steps at approximately a foot each... is 1.64772 miles... hum... filtering water is such a good workout :)... and that includes lifting weights... each water bottle is approximately 1olbs each... and you have to shake them around... good for the upper body... and then sampling the water requires a good hand over hand workout pulling the bottle out of the water... and the same is done with the YSI .... so all in all a great workout :)
